PCA Services

Our Personal Care Assistant (PCA) Services, as with other Home Care Services, are to help you live independently in your own home and in the community as opposed to a facility. PCA Services are available to individuals of all ages with special health care needs and are a paid benefit under Medical Assistance or Minnesota Care.  PCA Services can be provided through the fee-for-service program, Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) waiver programs, or through prepaid health plans (UCare, etc.).

OUR PCA Services help people with:

  • Activities of Daily Living, including eating, toileting, grooming, dressing, bathing, transferring, mobility, and positioning.
  • Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, including meal planning and preparation, managing money, shopping for essential items, performing essential household chores, communicating by telephone and other media, and getting around and participating in the community.
  • Health Related Functions, such as rangeof motion exercises, seizure intervention, or ventilator suctioning; and
  • Redirection and intervention for behavior including observation and monitoring.

Your Options

Under our PCA Option, you obtain PCA staff through a V-Care.  We hire, train, pay and schedules the hours of PCA workers assigned to you.

To allow more flexibility and meet the changing and varying needs of individuals who receive care, Minnesota’s PCA program also allows for services to be provided through other delivery models described below.

  • You can choose your own PCA to provide your care, while V-Care handles all the employment and management-related functions as the employer of record for the PCAs.
  • You may choose to have one PCA worker helping two or three people living in the same place.
  • You may have a schedule that requires more flexibility in the hours your PCA is available to you. You may opt to use your approved PCA hours within a certain period of time as your schedule changes.

In Minnesota you have the option of choosing your own caregiver, including your friend or family member.  That way you can be sure someone is providing your care that you already know and trust. However, if you don’t have someone to help you with your care, V-Care Home Health employees are carefully screened, and wework closely with you to match you with someone who will be a good fit for you.
